Get Help

Practical help after fraud, identity theft, and other digital harm.

Get Help is where to start if you've experienced digital harm. Organize what happened, follow step-by-step guidance, or connect with a nonprofit organization for one-on-one support.

Choose the path that fits your situation. You don't need to know exactly what happened to begin.

What to expect

  • There are three paths. Start with the one that fits; you don't need to follow them in order.

  • If you're not sure what happened, My Case helps you organize it first.

  • Defend gives you information, guidance, and tools. Defend doesn't contact anyone or send anything for you unless you review the request and authorize it.

  • You can leave any path at any time and choose another.

Not sure what happened?

Privately organize what happened into a Case File you can print and keep.

Your case is temporary: it stays in this browser tab, and Defend doesn't receive it or save it.

Know what happened?

Go straight to step-by-step actions to report it and protect your credit, identity, and accounts.

You take each step yourself, at the official place Defend points you to.

Want to talk to a person?

Reach a nonprofit victim-support organization for one-on-one guidance.

These organizations are independent of Defend. You call or visit them directly, and Defend doesn't send them anything about you.

Start from what happened

Each page gathers the Guides, official places and other help for one kind of situation.

Prefer a plan to follow?

Guides put the steps for a common situation in order, with links to the official places to take them. Your answers stay in this browser tab.

What does Defend do, and what do other organizations do?

Defend gives you information, step-by-step guidance, and tools to organize what happened and prepare documents. Defend doesn't contact anyone or send anything for you unless you review the request and authorize it.

Official organizations, such as the Federal Trade Commission, the credit bureaus, and your bank, handle reports, credit freezes, and account recovery.

Independent nonprofit organizations offer one-on-one support.
